About J.D. Pence
Our Mission
Our mission is very simple. We strive to give each customer personal and professional customer service to meet their swimwear needs. We hate voice mail and recorded messages for business phones. Every time you call us you will get a real human being who will be happy to help you when you call. We treat you like we wish to be treated. In our day and age of computers and automated customer service, we value and appreciate old-fashioned customer service. As many of you know, we have a loyal team of employees who have been with us for many years, so chances are you'll get the same person each time you call us. We value every customer and we are the best there is out there when it comes to serving our customers.
What About That Name?
Many customers ask us what J.D. Pence means. It started when we started the company with another family and we created the name out of all four partners' names. J for Jim, D for Dick, Pen for Penny and Ce for Cecile. J(Jim) D(Dick) Pen(Penny) Ce(Cecile). We soon bought out Dick and Penny but our company name was well known so we kept our name J.D. Pence Aquatic Supply.
How it All Started
We have been serving the needs of competitive swimmers since 1978. We started our company with one brand, Hind-Wells. In those early days, we were able to attend a swim meet carrying only one steamer trunk firmly packed with our merchandise in the back of our 1975 Ford Maverick. Swimmers were accustomed to one or two styles of goggles, one cap style and only a few suit styles. We would sell all our stock out each meet. Hind-Wells has long been gone and the one or two styles of goggles and caps have been replaced by hundreds. Suits now come in high-tech styles and in a multitude of fabrics tailored to many needs of swimmers from workout to technical competition suits.
State of the Art Swimwear
Now, we carry all the major brands of swimwear including Speedo, Tyr, Finis and Dolfin. We offer custom team services such as custom printed caps, suits and embroidery services as well as custom team banners. We strive to stay on top of the latest trends for swimwear and training equipment. We educate ourselves in fabric performance and fit of suits so we can educate our customers, helping suits to last longer and fit better.
Our Top-Notch Employees
Our crew is made of primarily present and past swim parents, coaches, swimmers and lifeguards. Most of our employees have been with us for 10 plus years, so they really know the needs of our customers. We are still a family owned and run business with Jim and Cecile Doyle owning the company. Their daughter Mary also works for JD Pence. Together with a staff of about 20 people, we serve our customers over the phone, the Internet, through meets, fittings, fitness events and our three stores in Portland, Forest Grove and Eugene, Oregon.
